    Software for Vertical Columns

Module V is used for medium size- to large vertical columns and chimneys subject to wind forces. The column can be built from various cylindrical and conical sections. It is possible to design a stacked column consisting of separate compartments with a different internal pressure. The compartments can be separated by a cylindrical or conical skirt.
Wind loads, internal pressure, forces due to external equipment (hanging reboilers), ladders, platforms, piping and packing can be applied to each section of the column. The effect of external forces and torques defined by user can also be calculated. For example the forces from scaffolding with wind protection can be simulated by adding external forces. A module is available for calculating the forces due to earthquakes. All design parameters can be updated according the applicable geographical circumstances.

Construction Forces and torques on empty column without packing or trays, without internals or external parts and without insulation
Test   Forces and torques under test conditions: column with platforms, ladders, test medium, insulation and wind loads
Operation   Forces and torques under operation conditions: fully dressed column under pressure in operation and wind loads
D1201   Wind loads, weights, torques, stress and stability of a vertical pressure vessel
D1301   Wind loads, weights, torques, stress and stability of a skirt of a vertical pressure vessel
D1302   Calculation to check stress in anchors, check of loads on concrete foundations and check of circular base plate thickness
Vibration   Check of vibration of the column during construction and operation conditions
Deflection   Calculation of the top deflection under operation conditions

For the standard databases supplied with this module refer to the Rules for Pressure Vessels and the AD Merkblätter module

Material selection from the database of materials such as DIN and ASME   Configuration of column with five sections with wind and pressure loads
